How to pick a floor robot

The pascal number on the box is mostly marketing. Mop style, hair, furniture height, and what the dock does will decide whether you still like it in three months.

What you’re signing up for

A floor robot is a vacuum, and often a mop, that maps the home and returns to a dock. The dock may empty the dustbin, wash the mop, dry it, and refill water. The more the dock does, the less you touch the robot — and the more space and money it costs.

It will not replace a deep clean. It is very good at the everyday grit: crumbs, dust, pet hair on the main paths. Chairs, cords, and dark rugs still confuse some models. You will rescue it sometimes. The question is how often, and whether emptying a bag every six weeks is worth a $200 dock.

Ignore suction. Decide the mop.

Box copy shouts 18,000 or 22,000 Pa. In a real kitchen, that number is a weak way to shop. Anti-tangle brushes, whether it sees socks and cables, and whether the mop actually stays clean matter more after week two.

Spinning pads (most Roborock, Dreame, and Ecovacs combos) are two small discs that rotate. They are decent on dust and light spots. They dry in the dock on better models. They are not great at sticky kitchen film unless you pre-wash.

A roller mop (Narwal Flow 2, eufy Omni S2, C28, Omni E25, Qrevo Curv 2 Flow) is more like a tiny floor washer: a roller that stays wet and gets scraped clean as it goes. Better on hard floors you care about. Often weaker or more awkward on thick carpet, which is why some of these lift or drop the roller automatically.

If you mostly have rugs and want pickup, you may not need a mop at all. Roborock Q7 M5+ (self-empty, no mop drama) and iRobot Roomba 205 DustCompactor (compacts dirt on board, small footprint) exist for that.

Shop by the problem you actually have

Most homes, mixed floors, don’t want to think: Q7 M5+ is the 2026 default in a lot of testing — LiDAR map, a bin that empties itself, a price that is not a second rent payment. If you want the dock to wash pads too, step to Qrevo Curv or Qrevo S Pro.

Pet hair: you want a brush that does not wind fur, and a dock that swallows it. Qrevo, Saros 10R, Roomba Combo 10 Max, Shark UV Reveal or PowerDetect. Combo 10 Max still shows up at the top of pickup tests; Shark is the one if you want a US-service brand.

Low furniture: Saros 10R is the ultra-thin flagship — it is built to go under sofas that stop a normal robot. Tight chairs still need a nudge.

Hard floors you notice: roller mop. Flow 2, Omni S2, E25, Curv 2 Flow. Freo Z Ultra if you want Narwal’s cameras and a dock that handles the messy parts.

Premium “touch it once a month”: Dreame X60 Max Ultra, Saros 20, DEEBOT T90 Omni, Freo Z Ultra. These make sense if the robot will run daily. They are oversized for a studio you vacuum on Sundays.

How to read the ribbons

Colored prize ribbons are independent 2026 roundups: Wirecutter, CNET, RTINGS, The Hook Up, Mashable, Vacuum Wars, PCMag, Tom’s Guide, Consumer Reports. Each list is always the same color. Hover a ribbon for the name. Gold Highly rated is Amazon owners only: enough reviews that the average is clearly in the 4s, not a mixed 4.0 and not a handful of fives. A ribbon cannot grant it.

They do not pick one winner. Q7 M5+ is Wirecutter’s top pick and RTINGS’ cheap pick. Tapo RV30 Max Plus is Wirecutter’s runner-up (and a PCMag award). Combo 10 Max is CNET’s overall and pickup champ. Saros 10R is RTINGS’ best tested. X60 Max Ultra is Mashable’s and Vacuum Wars’ flagship. Curv 2 Flow won The Hook Up’s 2026 scorecard; Omni S2 was their flagship-style pick. Tom’s Guide’s overall is the Shark UV Reveal; their pet-hair pick is Saros 20. Consumer Reports’ four-best set is a different table — Roomba Max 705 is the one we stock from it. MOVA V50 Ultra and Dreame X50 Ultra are in the catalog because they held CNET’s overall and coverage slots earlier this year; those ribbons have moved.
