How to pick a window robot

What you’re actually buying

A window robot is a small, flat cleaner that holds itself on the glass with suction, then sprays (or mists) and wipes. It is not a vacuum. It will not do your tracks, your screens, or the corners as well as a person with a squeegee. What it is good at is the boring middle of a large pane — patio doors, a wall of windows, a second-story exterior you would rather not climb for.

It will leave a faint edge on most framed windows. You will still wipe the gasket by hand. Treat the robot as the middle-of-the-glass machine, not as a replacement for a human with a ladder.

Safety first — then everything else

Every serious model should give you three pieces: strong suction so it stays put, a backup battery so it does not fall if the outlet glitches, and a tether you clip to something solid. Use the tether. Indoor-only on a first-floor pane is the only time people reasonably skip it, and even then it is a bad habit.

Exterior high-rise glass is a different job from a bathroom window. Wind, heat, and a long drop change the risk. If you cannot clip the tether to a solid point, do not send the robot outside. Most of these machines are rated for interior glass and careful exterior use — not for dangling off a 12th-floor balcony with no attachment.

Start with the size of the glass

This is the decision that saves you from a return. WINBOT Mini and Mini 2 are built for ordinary household panes — bathrooms, bedrooms, windows divided by muntins. A full-size W2S or W3 wants a big, fairly flat sheet. Put a large robot on a small divided window and it spends the job bumping frames. Put a Mini on a storefront pane and you will be repositioning it all morning.

Think about how many panes you will actually run in one session. Two bathroom windows: Mini 2 or a Tosima is plenty. A house of sliding doors: full-size body, and consider a dock. Frameless shower glass and glass railings are pickier about edge detection — Mamibot is built with that in mind.

Docks, spray, and the shape of the robot

An Omni station (W2 PRO Omni, W2S Omni, W3 Omni) washes the pad between jobs so you are not at the sink after every pane. That only pays off if you clean a lot of glass in one go. For a couple of interior windows, the dock is a bulky extra you will store in a closet.

How they wet the glass differs. Ecovacs and Tosima tend to spray a real amount of solution and then wipe a planned path (Ecovacs calls this Win-SLAM — it is just “it maps the pane instead of wandering”). HOBOT-2S mists more lightly. Mist drips less on the sill; it can also mean more passes on dirty exterior glass.

Shape matters more than people expect. Round Hobots leave a bit more uncleaned edge on framed rectangular panes, because a circle does not tuck into corners. Square Winbots and HUTTs get closer. If your windows have thick frames, expect to finish the last inch by hand either way.

Tosima W3, W5, and X1, and HUTT S7 / S55 Pro / A1, are the value lane: same safety idea, simpler pathing, lower price. Fine if you accept a less polished route across the glass. S7 and S55 Pro are the ones owners actually rate in the high 4s.

How to read the ribbons

The colored prize ribbons on a product card are independent 2026 roundups — not brand “award” stickers. Each list keeps one color in every aisle: hover a ribbon for the name. Gold Highly rated is Amazon owners only: enough reviews that the average is clearly in the 4s, not a mixed 4.0 and not a handful of fives. A ribbon cannot grant it.

Window robots have fewer big-name roundups than pool or lawn. We scored Window Robot Lab, The Robots HQ, Cybernews, Wirecutter, and PCWorld.

WINBOT W2 PRO Omni is the overlap — three lists. W3 Omni, WINBOT Mini, and Mamibot W120 sit on two. They still disagree on the winner: Window Robot Lab wants the Omni dock. The Robots HQ wanted HOBOT S7 Pro for streak-free glass — that listing has no live Amazon offer this month, so it is not on the aisle. Wirecutter spent time with the Mini on actual high-rise panes and came away impressed for hard-to-reach interiors. Cybernews still carries W1 Pro; owners score it a 2.9.

A straightforward pick

Apartment or divided windows: WINBOT Mini 2, or Tosima W5 / X1 if you want to spend less. Big sliding doors you will do often: W2 PRO Omni if you want the dock the lists keep naming, or W2S without the station. Owner-loved value: HUTT S7 or S55 Pro. Exterior glass: full-size, tether every time, and be ready to wipe edges by hand.
